Why a Bangkok law firm — not the destination consulate — should run this

Destination consulates and registrars cannot help you assemble Thai documents; they only verify documents you present. The actual chain — amphur intake, certified translation, MFA, destination-embassy authentication — must happen in Thailand, in the correct order, with the right translators and timings. Skipping the local layer is the single biggest cause of failed overseas marriages. Our office runs this chain weekly for 50+ destination countries. We know which French translators the French embassy accepts (only 4 firms), which German translators clear Standesamt without rework, and which US counties accept which affidavit format. This institutional memory is the difference between a 10-day clean run and a 6-month restart.

Coordinating with the wedding date

The hardest part is timing. Tor. Ror. 3 is typically considered valid for 3-6 months by destination registrars. Translation + MFA + embassy adds another 7-14 working days. Bookings at major destination registrars are usually 4-12 weeks out. Common use cases

Thai bride marrying in Germany

German Standesamt requires a Tor. Ror. 3 translated to German, MFA-legalized, and authenticated at the German embassy in Bangkok. We deliver the full package in 10-14 working days.

Thai groom marrying in the UK

UK GRO accepts a Certificate of No Impediment equivalent in English. We obtain Tor. Ror. 3, translate to English, MFA-legalize, and authenticate at the British embassy.

Marriage in France

Why does each country want slightly different documents?▾

Because each country's marriage registrar is independent. Germany wants Ehefähigkeitszeugnis-style proof, France wants certificat de coutume, the UK wants a CNI — all are essentially proving the same thing (you are free to marry), but each is named and formatted differently.

How recent must the documents be?▾

Most destination registrars require Tor. Ror. 3 to be issued within the last 3-6 months of the wedding date. We time the chain so documents arrive 'fresh' on the wedding day.

Can you get my Tor. Ror. 3 if I am registered outside Bangkok?▾

Yes. With a Power of Attorney, we visit your registered amphur on your behalf — including amphurs in Isan, the North, or Southern Thailand.

Do I need to register the foreign marriage back into Thailand?▾

Optional but recommended. Registering the foreign marriage at the Thai amphur (via the Foreign Marriage Recognition process) keeps your Thai records consistent — important for property, inheritance, and pension.

What language should I translate into?▾

Translate into the official language of the destination registrar — English for UK/US/AUS, German for Germany, French for France/Belgium/Quebec, Dutch for the Netherlands, etc. We advise during the consultation.
